Bass Fishing on the North Branch of the Susquehanna River and several other  lakes in the Poconos region of Pa.

October 10 fishing report

October 10 fishing report

After the wettest September on record October is just as wet so far. The river has been high and muddy for the past two months now I have only seen the USGS gauge below six feet for a few days in that period. On the bright side if you like fishing for catfish it has been a banner year. Most of my four hour trips have been productive in numbers and size. We have caught numerous fish over 11 pounds and 37 Angler Award size fish. The Smallmouth has been about what you would expect, as the water would clear the bite become very good but just hasn’t lasted long enough. The walleye bite has been slow as expected the water temperature is still too warm and not clear enough. Hopefully the rest of October and November will treat us to some dry spells. I still have some November dates left if anyone’s interested.

Bass fishing the Susquehanna and Surrounding Lakes

Poconos and surrounding areas

We are located in the Pocono Region  of NEPA in the Scranton area. We are  conveniently located just a few miles from interstate 81 with easy access to the northeast extension of the Pa. turnpike. If the rest of your family wishes not to fish there are endless  recreational activities in the area. Catch a RailRiders baseball game, this is the Yankees AAA farm team. Montage mountain water park also right there. Camelback water park in Tannersville along with Great Wolf Lodge also the Kalahari resort is near. If you wish to try your hand at one of the area casinos they are also close by. Mohegan Sun and Mount Airy casino  are both within 30 minutes drive. There are also endless camping opportunities available at the many state parks. If biking is your thing there are many miles of mountain bike trails in the area. So if some of your family wishes not to fish they should be able to find something to do.

Susquehanna North Branch and Surrounding Pocono Lakes

This stretch of the Susquehanna known as the North Branch is characterized by rolling meadows, forests and crop land, set amidst seemingly Endless Mountains. This area is  conveniently located just a few miles from Interstate 81 and easy access to the  northeast extension of the turnpike. We have many clients do a day trip coming from Philadelphia or the New Jersey area. Last year my clients caught and released over 8000 Smallmouth Bass. 565 Channel Cats and 113 Walleye. The river flow was good all year so my clients seen a lot of action. We mainly fish the Lackawanna and Wyoming county area but have fished from the New York state line south to Harrisburg. If you wish to fish a different area I will do my best to accommodate your wishes. We also Fish several lakes in the Poconos including a private lave in Wayne county that offers Largemouth up to 8 pound. Also very good Pickeral and Calico Fishing.

Multi species opportunity

I will make your trip work for you weather we are fishing one of the local Pocono lakes or the mighty Susquehanna River. There are usually several patterns going on so I can usually show you several ways to catch fish. I realize not everyone wants to "cast for bass" all day so I offer Catfish trips as more laid back relaxing adventure. Catfish trips are a favorite for the young angler or those who just wants to catch big fish. Walleye fishing is also another option the best months being November and December. These are just a couple more options of what I offer. I have also gained access to a very good Pocono fishing lake. It is primarily a shallow weed-stump filled jewel. Last year Largemouth to 8 pounds were caught and release. This lake also offers outstanding Calico and Pickerel fishing.

Beautiful day

About Us

Your Guide

I am a lifelong resident of  NEPA  and has been fishing over 50 year. After spending many years on the Bass Tournament Trails I moved to guiding on the Susquehanna River and surrounding Pocono lake. I am a full time guide and spend about 250 days a year on the water. I am very knowledgeable on the latest techniques and lures. I will show you the latest techniques and review the basics to efficiently utilize your time. I understand not everyone wants to throw crankbaits or jerkbaits all day there are usually several patterns going on so I can usually accommodate other techniques you would rather try. l also have several other guides available so larger groups  requiring more than one boat are welcome. All skill levels are also welcome.  We will make whatever adjustments needed to make your trip a enjoyable and memorable experience.

Running The River in a RiverPro

Those new to running the shallow water of the Susquehanna will be amazed how shallow a LoPro can run. My RiverPro was designed by Kevin Turner he is a lifelong river boat builder from Hillsboro Missouri. RiverPro is widely regarded as the flattest running best handling river boat available. Powered by a 200 hp Mercury sportjet we can achieve speeds of 50 mph. Also equipped with heavy duty skid plates and a .190 hull thickness we can literally go anywhere. You will never hear me worry about how shallow the water is we can go there! Another plus of a fast boat is we spend more time fishing then running to spots. Spend a day with me and you will see what I mean.

2018 Rates and Policy and What to Bring

2018 Rates: Please call as I offer many different specials and  packages. Singles are welcome, I will charge you a fair price if you are alone. The Susquehanna is a very large river  capable of flows over 100,000 CFPS. That being said anything on the Wilkes-Barre gauge above 6’ is to dangerous to be on and is unfishable. On the same Wilkes-Barre gauge any reading at 2’ or below we will be able to only take only two people due to the low water condition. What to bring: Sunglasses, sunblock, soft sole shoes, a valid PA. Fishing license, and your lunch and drink. I always have water on board. Do I Fish: 99 % of the time no. If you invite me to Fish I will but I will never fish any water before you it’s your trip your Fish. From time to time I will need to fish to verify there are Fish in the area or to show you some suttle differences in your presentation that make a big difference In your catch rate.
